Australia

The working holiday program is required for aupairs in Oz  Further information is available from any office of the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA) in Australia, or Australian missions overseas, or you can refer to the Procedures Advice Manual (PAM) which is available from the Commonwealth Government bookshops (telephone 008 020 049) in Australia).  We have some further information below that you will find useful

Visa

You will be required to present the following

  • A certificate of enrolment for the au pair, from any Italian School where the au pair will be attending an Italian language course. The visa will be issued for the length of time of the au pairs enrolment in the language school.
  • A return air ticket
  • Travel and medical insurance
  • A statement of support written and signed by the host family that must be stamped by the local police
  • A written agreement between the au pair and the host family which should contain the terms of employment such as duration of stay, salary etc. The agreement must be stamped by the “Ufficio Provinciale del Lavoro” and must be accompanied by a permit issued by the local police

Norway

There are 3 different types of aupairs in Norway.
Au pair              > works 5 hours a day and babysits 2 or 3 evenings a week
Au pair plus        > as above but would entail a lot more babysitting
Mothers Help      > 8 hours a day  and duties as above

It is important that you are clear and the family is clear of expectations, money, time off etc. Agree before you go!

Visa
EU citizens do not need a visa to be an Aupair in Spain. You do require a valid passport or an identity card. If you decode for longer than 3 months you must make this known to the Aliens registration authority.
Non EU Aupairs should contact their Consulate as there is preconditions such as been able to sustain your self (financhally)
You can not come to Spain as a Tourist and then become an aupair.
You must also be enrolled in a English Language course before you arrive in Spain.
Please research carefully and ensure that all conditions are met.

Allowed Countries

  • Nordic countries including Iceland do not require a work permit or residence visa
  • EU countries can enter Sweden without a visa but if they stay beyond 3 months you are required to apply for a residents visa. To apply for a residents Visa you must get a signed certificate from your employer and a certificate of enrolment into language school.
  • Non EU Countries must have a work permit on their passport before entering Sweden. It is essential that your passport is well within date to ensure it does not run out while you in Sweden. Iy you decide to stay beyond 3 months it is important to know that you require a residency visa. This must be got before entering Sweeden.

Switzerland

Not straight forward. Please take particular care and ensure that you register with local registrations office not later that 8 days after entering Switzerland. Unfortunately South Africans are blacklisted. Employers are obliged to cover travel and health insurance and enrollment ond into English language course.
